Maya has 18+ years of experience in the healthcare and life science sectors. At Heliconia West, LLC she provides consulting and advisory services to drug, device, and digital health companies and investment firms. She has a proven ability to help Senior Executives and Investors with due diligence, including target market evaluation, clinical study design, regulatory approval pathways, and the positioning of the intellectual property portfolio, to achieve both proximate and long-term goals of technology development. She is also the Founder and CEO of Seeking Cure, Inc., an online community for patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, and life science companies.
Maya has clinical and regulatory expertise in drug and medical device development and digital health implementation. Her experience spans across therapeutic areas including neurology, rheumatology, nephrology, respiratory, dermatology, oncology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, cardiovascular, and women's health. She has helped prepare numerous regulatory submissions (e.g., Pre-IND, IND, orphan/fast-track/breakthrough designations) and participated in meetings with the FDA and other agencies.
Maya previously served as the Vice President of Clinical Research at Processa Pharmaceuticals, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for patients with unmet medical needs. She also led clinical development programs in neurology, rheumatology, and nephrology therapeutic areas at Mallinckrodt and Questcor Pharmaceuticals. Earlier, Maya worked in clinical informatics and implementation at Epic Systems and managed health information technology programs for federal and state clients at NORC at the University of Chicago.
Maya received her M.D. and J.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed a residency in Preventive Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident and rotated through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and received a M.S. in Epidemiology from the University of Maryland. She is also registered to practice as an attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
